Member used Aquatic Classes to Gain Strength and Improve Mobility
When Janice first came to Chelsea Wellness Center, she had recently fallen and was having a hard time walking.
“The staff here is great. After working with a Fitness Specialist during my initial assessment to determine my starting point, they recommended Aquatic classes, which provide me with a warm, low-impact workout,” says Janice
Janice started with the Gentle Beginnings class taught by a certified aquatic instructor. Over time, she learned the exercises and can now do them herself in the pool on her own time. She pushes herself to work out and then heads to the hot tub to reward herself.
“I also think the housekeeping staff are great. They keep the center clean and ensure towels are well stocked. They know me and make sure that I can reach the towels. And I love that the towels are warm when I get out of the pool.”
Janice has watched herself get stronger, progressing from a walker to a cane and then without any assistance. While she recently had to go back to a walker due to some hip deterioration, she says she is still so much stronger than she was. “I keep coming every day. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to walk at all.”
Financial assistance has been available to Janice through the Wellness Center’s scholarship program. “My scholarship allows me to keep coming to the Center and I use the WAVE bus for transportation. I have no excuse not to come.”
Janice loves coming to Chelsea Wellness Center and values the friendships that she has developed. “I have yet to find someone that I cannot talk to. The regular members I see have gotten to know each other by first name and we occasionally go out to breakfast after our workouts.”
When asked if she would recommend Chelsea Wellness Center, Janis says:
“Yes, I would recommend the Chelsea Wellness Center to all who can come. You need this to keep yourself going. It would have been so easy for me to stay at home and do nothing, but then I wouldn’t be able to do anything. I make myself keep coming back and I believe if I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t be walking right now.”
