Studies show that some of your summer favorites help more than just satisfying your sweet tooth or refresh your body on a hot day. Try these eight food and drink options with secret health benefits:
Watermelon – Stay hydrated while satisfying hunger with fewer calories.
Corn – Protect your eyes from damaging UV rays with antioxidants found in corn.
Tomatoes – Consume lycopene (what makes tomatoes red) to help protect your skin against sunburn.
Blueberries – Fight muscle fatigue with blueberry antioxidants.
Cherries – Eat tart cherries to get better sleep, avoid muscle pain after working out and burn fat. Nutrients in sweet cherries work to reduce blood pressure and combat cancer.
Iced Coffee – A study published in the published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, found that coffee may lower your risk of skin cancer by about 10 percent.
Raspberries – Lower cholesterol and fight fat with fiber found in raspberries.
Iced Tea – Rich in a class of antioxidants called flavonoids, sipping tea regularly lowers risk and Alzheimer’s and diabetes.
