May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on the importance of mental wellness. Exercise is a  natural mood-booster that has a profound impact on our mental health, offering a range of benefits that can improve our overall well-being.
Exercise is a well-known stress reliever. During physical activity, your body releases endorphins, hormones that have mood-lifting and pain-relieving properties. Endorphins can help combat feelings of anxiety and depression, leaving you feeling more positive and relaxed. Regular exercise also helps manage stress by improving your body’s ability to cope with stressful situations. Physical activity can lower your blood pressure, heart rate, and muscle tension, all of which contribute to feelings of stress.
Exercise can significantly improve your sleep quality. Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly throughout the night. This is because exercise tires your body out in a healthy way, promoting better sleep. Additionally, exercise can help regulate your sleep-wake cycle, leading to a more consistent sleep schedule.
Exercise may seem counterintuitive when you’re feeling tired, but it can actually give you a much-needed energy boost. Physical activity improves your body’s ability to use oxygen, which can help you feel more energized throughout the day. Exercise also helps fight fatigue by improving sleep quality and reducing stress hormones.
